Dubai moves have a few extra steps most generic moving checklists don't cover — building NOC letters, lift booking windows, and community access rules. Here's a practical order to work through, whether you're moving a Palm Jumeirah apartment or a villa.
Four weeks before
- Confirm your moving date and, if you're in a tower, check whether your building requires advance notice or a booking window for the service lift.
- Get a moving quote based on your actual inventory rather than a rough guess — it's easier to plan around a real figure.
- Start a room-by-room declutter. Anything you won't unpack at the new place shouldn't be packed in the first place.
Two weeks before
- Request any building NOC (No Objection Certificate) your current or new building requires for moving in or out — towers in Dubai commonly ask for this.
- Start packing non-essential rooms first: storage, guest rooms, books and decor.
- Label boxes by destination room, not just contents — it saves real time on the other end.
Moving week
- Confirm lift booking or loading bay access at both addresses.
- Pack an essentials box separately — documents, chargers, medication, a change of clothes.
- Defrost and clean the fridge if it's moving with you.
Moving day
- Do a final walkthrough of every room, including cupboards and balconies, before the crew leaves.
- Keep valuables and important documents with you rather than in the move itself.
- Check off inventory as it's unloaded at the new address.
Building-specific NOC requirements vary by community and developer — check with your building management directly, as this guide can't list every Dubai building's individual policy.
